Stolen vehicle pursuit leads to Elk Grove police vehicle catching fire

A pursuit of a stolen vehicle led to an Elk Grove police department vehicle catching fire in a field near Delta Shores.

The incident started near Bond Road and East Stockton Blvd early Saturday evening when officers located a stolen vehicle. After officers conducted a vehicle stop, the suspect then intentionally backed up into two EGPD vehicles and fled.

The chase led to Cosumnes River Blvd and I-5 where the suspect collided with another vehicle and then continued into an open field. The suspect then fled on foot and was captured with the help of an EGPD K9. One of the EGPD vehicles caught fire in the field. No officers were injured.

The suspect, 34-year-old Gonzalo Rodriguez, was taken to an area hospital for treatment and then booked in the county jail on several charges including assault with a deadly weapon, hit and run, felony evading a police officer and other charges
