New name & new location for Elk Grove Holiday light Parade

There will be a new name and new location for the Elk Grove Holiday Light Parade. For years the parade and tree lighting took place in the old town Elk Grove area. The tree lighting shifted from a large tree near Kerr Middle School to a tree near Elk Grove Blvd and Walnut.

The parade traditionally took place the Saturday after Thanksgiving and capped off the Dicken’s Faire which takes place during the day. Last year’s parade led to complaints from parade watchers and concerns over safety. Those concerns led to the committee responsible for the parade to say they would no longer be able to do it. Another group stepped up to take over earlier this year to continue the tradition.

Now the location has been changed, as well as the name. The new name is the Illumination Holiday Festival, and the location will be near the future Elk Grove Civic Center, now known as Distict56.

The date has also been changed from the Saturday after Thanksgiving to the first Saturday of December. This year it will be on December 7, 2019.
