A false report of a residential burglary led to the shut down of an Elk Grove street, the Elk Grove Police Department SWAT Unit being called and a search by a helicopter of the area near Elk Grove Regional Park.
The incident started around 2:30 PM, when officers responded to the 8900 block of Lake Elsinore Court for a report of a burglary that was interrupted by the homeowner, who fired two shots with a shotgun inside the home. Officers arrived and established a perimeter. Nearby residents were asked to stay in their homes.
The SWAT unit searched the home and yard and did not find any suspects. Detectives began their investigation and based on evidence at the home and statements that were made, determined there was not a burglary.
The homeowner, identified as 23-year-old Joseph Farias was arrested for 246.3 PC –negligent discharge of a firearm and is being held on $100,000 bail
