The two victims in Sunday night’s crash on Interstate 5 near Elk Grove have been identified by the Sacramento County Coroner. 19 year old Ciera Wallace and 19 year Mariah Alvarado, both of Stockton were killed in the collision on Sunday night.
The collision took place just after 9 pm Sunday night on southbound I-5. The South Sacramento CHP posted the following on their Facebook page:
The CHP Sacramento Communications Center received a call of a traffic collision on I-5 southbound, south of Elk Grove Blvd. Upon arrival, it was determined that a Freightliner tractor trailer combination was stopped due to a previous traffic collision just south of its location. While stopped in the #2 lane, a Nissan Versa was traveling in the #2 lane, approaching the Frieghtliner at approximately 70 mph. For an unknown reason, the Nissan failed to slow or stop and collided with the rear of the Freightliner’s trailer. As a result, the driver and the right front passenger of the Nissan sustained fatal injuries and have not been identified at this time. The driver of the Freightliner and a passenger were not injured as a result of the collision.
