Before You Gobble…Register for Elk Grove’s Thanksgiving Fun Run

Before you gobble up your Thanksgiving feast, run, walk, or wobble your way to the finish line of the Elk Grove Gobble Wobble on Thanksgiving morning. This family-friendly event benefits Chicks in Crisis, an Elk Grove non-profit offering pregnancy, parenting, adoption, and educational services. Event details and online registration are available at www.itsyourrace.com. Road closure information is available at www.elkgrovecity.org.

Can It! Scrape It! Trash It! Recycle It!

‘Tis the season for feasting and an increase in sewer backups and overflows caused by fats, oils, and grease (FOG). When FOG-containing items from holiday cooking—like fatty meat scraps, gravies, cream, butter, and oils—go down kitchen sink drains and garbage disposals, they build up inside your sewer pipes, constricting the flow of water. The result is clogged pipes and messy, costly sewer backups into your home.

To help prevent backups, properly dispose of FOG with these three easy steps:

  • Can It! Pour cooled oils and grease into a sturdy container and place it in your garbage.
  • Scrape It! Before washing, scrape out fats, oils, and grease from pots and pans and into your garbage.
  • Trash It! Put fatty and greasy food scraps in the garbage.
  • Recycle It! Drop it off FREE of charge at the Special Waste collection Center (9255 Disposal Lane), Sunday through Wednesday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
