Dignity Health to close Methodist after opening Elk Grove hospital
Dignity Health announced it will be closing their Methodist Hospital location after they open their new facility in Elk Grove. The opening of a new hospital could be as much as 7 years away according to an article in the Elk Grove Citizen.
The hospital will be located next to the existing Dignity Health Medical office building on Wymark Drive and Elk Grove Blvd. An announcement event is planned for January 8, 2020, at the proposed location.
It was almost a year ago that California Northstate University announced its plans to open a hospital in the Stone Lake area of Elk Grove. That plan has been met with criticism from nearby residents and business owners in the Stone Lake Landing retail center that will be torn down to make room for the hospital.
CNU announced an ambitious timeline of opening in 2022. Plans for the hospital are still being reviewed by Elk Grove’s planning staff. Approval for the hospital must be given by state regulators, in a process that makes the 2022 opening very unlikely.
