Sacramento Sheriff’s investigating shooting at South Sacramento drive-thru

The Sacramento Sheriff’s Department is investigating an early morning shooting at a South Sacramento drive thru that left one man dead and a suspect on the loose.

The incident happened early Friday morning at the McDonald’s in the 4100 block of Florin Road. Deputies responded to reports of a shooting around 1 am.

NEW RELEASE: HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION IN SOUTH SACRAMENTO

Just before 1:00 a.m. on Friday, December 27, 2019, the Sheriff’s Communications Center received a call from the 4100 block of Florin Road regarding shots fired in a fast food restaurant drive-thru.

A short time later, a male in his late 20’s was brought into an area hospital suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body. He was later pronounced deceased by hospital staff.

Detectives believe this was a targeted shooting, but a motive is unknown at this time.

The suspect was described as an adult male wearing a hooded sweatshirt. There is no further suspect information at this time.

There were other witnesses present at the time of the shooting who fled the scene prior to deputies’ arrival. They are being urged to contact the Sheriff’s Office.

The identity of the victim in this case will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office after notification of next of kin.
