Recognizing Outstanding Elk Grovians
The Elk Grove Community Council will honor six Elk Grove community members who have a lifetime of outstanding contributions to the community during their annual Elk Grove Hall of Fame Ceremony on Thursday, January 9 at the Armaans Palace Event Hall (2301 Longport Drive). Kay and Gil Albiani, Yvonne Bonacci, Dennis Buscher, Jay DeWald, and Elizabeth Pinkerton will be honored. Tickets to attend are $25 per person and can be purchased online at Eventbrite.com.
Elk Grove Honors Dr. Martin Luther King
The Elk Grove community has a chance to participate in local and regional events honoring Dr. Martin Luther King later this month. On Saturday, January 18, the second annual Elk Grove MLK Community Breakfast will be held at Laguna Town Hall (3020 Renwick Avenue). Doors open at 8:30 a.m. with the breakfast and program scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Cost is $25 for adults and $10 for students/youth. Tickets can be purchased online through EventBrite. On Monday, January 20, city leaders will join the community in the March for the Dream, a regional event honoring Dr. King starting at Sacramento City College at 9:00 a.m. Details on how you can participate in both events can be found on the city’s website at www.elkgrovecity.org.
Recycle Your Tree
Place your tree curbside next to your green waste container by 6 a.m. during the weeks of January 13, or January 27.All ornaments, lights, tinsel, metal rod supports, and tree stand must be removed. Trees taller than 6 feet must be cut into 3-foot or shorter pieces and placed in your green waste container, ensuring pieces fit completely with the lid closed. Artificial, flocked, or “live” trees with root balls will not be accepted. You can also take your tree of any size, FREE of charge, to either the Special Waste Collection Center (9255 Disposal Lane) or Elder Creek Transfer and Recovery Station (8642 Elder Creek Road).
