Earlier this afternoon Elk Grove police officers arrested a suspect that had barricaded himself inside the garage in a residential area. As a result of the police activity, nearby Zehnder Ranch Elementary was placed on lockdown as a precautionary measure. The suspect, 40-year-old Willy Ong of Elk Grove was arrested for an active warrant and resisting arrest. He is being held without bail at the Sacramento County Jail. According to the Elk Grove Police Department’s daily watch summary, this is Ong’s fourth arrest in less than a month.
Elk Grove Police issued a press release on the arrest and school lockdown.
On Tuesday January 7, 2019, at 12:15 p.m., Elk Grove Police Department detectives were conducting surveillance in the 9800 block of Denali Circle for a search warrant, related to an active investigation, that was going to be served later in the day. However, officers observed the suspect, identified as 40-year-old Willy Ong who had an active warrant out for his arrest, in a vehicle exiting the garage of the residence.
Based upon proximity to Zehnder Ranch Elementary School and out of an abundance of caution, the school was placed on precautionary lockdown. The Elk Grove School District Safety and Security team was on site at the school monitoring the incident and were in continued contact with EGPD.
Officers attempted to contact Ong who drove back into the garage and barricaded himself inside. EGPD SWAT personnel along with officers quickly set up a perimeter around the house. Negotiators had communication with Ong, but he refused to exit the residence.
At approximately 1:24 p.m., EGPD SWAT entered the residence by removing the garage door. Ong was located in the garage and detained after a brief struggle.
The school was notified, and the lockdown was lifted.
Ong was arrested for resisting an executive officer, possession of a controlled substance and for his active warrant. Ong (photo attached) was booked at the Sacramento County Main Jail.
