Elk Grove Week at a Glance

Week of January 20, 2020

Let’s Celebrate the Grand Opening of The Center at District56

The community is invited to celebrate the opening of Elk Grove’s next great gathering space, the Center at District56, during a grand opening celebration this Thursday, January 23 from 4-7 p.m. at the facility located at 8230 Civic Center Drive. Festivities will include a brief ceremony at 4:30 p.m. and light refreshments. Check out the new home of the Senior Center of Elk Grove and Elk Grove’s first dedicated veterans’ hall. Details about the event are available online at www.district56elkgrove.com.

Shape Your Future

The Elk Grove Youth Commission and CSD Teen Action Committee are hosting a workshop titled “Shape Your Future: Learn. Plan. Succeed” on Saturday, January 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Wackford Complex (9014 Bruceville Road). Join other Elk Grove teens and learn from speakers on balancing your budget/checkbook, applying for scholarships and search for jobs and learn interview skills. There is no cost to attend the event. Lunch is provided and community services credits may be available to those students who attend.

Imagine Old Town’s Future

Join the City for a special workshop at the Elk Grove Library next Tuesday, January 28, at 6:00 p.m. to envision the future of Old Town Elk Grove. City staff wants to hear from residents as they prepare for an update to the Old Town Special Planning Area (SPA). Attend the workshop to discuss the current conditions in Old Town, explore land use, circulation, parking and placemaking opportunities, and provide other suggestions you have for the area. For more information about the Old Town SPA and to sign up for project notifications, visit www.elkgrovecity.org/oldtown.

Have questions before the meeting? Contact Christopher Jordan, Director of Strategic Planning and Innovation, at cjordan@elkgrovecity.org or (916) 478-2222.

It’s Almost Lunar New Year!

The City and its Diversity and Inclusion Commission will partner with the Cosumnes CSD to host a Lunar New Year Celebration for the community on Friday, January 31 from 6-9 p.m. at The Center at District56.
