Elk Grove Police released more details on the investigation into an apparent murder-suicide that took place on Sunday afternoon in Elk Grove.

On Sunday, January 26, 2020, at approximately 1:58 p.m., officers were dispatched to a residence in the 5500 block of Tamarindo Lane regarding a female screaming in the street.
When officers arrived, they contacted the female in the street and learned she had been in a verbal argument with her child’s father while inside of their residence. The 45-year-old male produced a gun and shot their 2-year-old child before turning the gun on himself.
Officers entered the residence, found the adult male and determined he was deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Officers then found the child inside of the residence deceased from a single gunshot wound.
Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene and took over the investigation. The names of the deceased have not been released and identification will be made by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.
At this time, detectives are treating this investigation as an apparent murder-suicide.
