Heavy winds expected in Northern California on Sunday

Heavy winds are expected throughout Northern California on Sunday. Winds are expected to up to 50 mph in some areas. That could mean downed trees and power outages. If you see power lines down, do not proceed. Call 911 immediately. Check all fences and gates to prevent pets from getting lost. Use caution if driving an RV or other high profile vehicles.

The National Weather Service has issued an alert for the north state.

WIND ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM TO 10 PM PST SUNDAY…

* WHAT…North to east wind 20 to 35 mph. Wind gusts up to 50 mph possible in the Central Valley Sunday. Wind gusts locally up to 60 mph or higher in Coastal Range and Sierra Nevada.

* WHERE…Sacramento Valley, Carquinez Strait and Delta, Northern San Joaquin Valley, Coastal range from Western Shasta County to Lake County, Western Plumas County and West Slopes of the Northern Sierra Nevada.

* WHEN…From 10 AM to 10 PM PST Sunday.

* IMPACTS…Gusty wind could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and power outages may result. Difficult driving conditions for small and high profile vehicles.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Northerly wind may cause downed trees in the Delta region due to non-prevailing wind direction. Strong easterly wind could impact outdoor recreational activities in the Sierra Nevada. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS… Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high profile vehicle. Secure outdoor objects.
