Dear Elk Grove Unified Parents and Families,
Today’s Elk Grove Unified community update highlights three important topics as we prepare for distance learning: Getting ready for connectivity, a reminder of our timeline and our District resources for social and emotional learning at home.
Let’s start with social and emotional learning. Aristotle once said, “Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all,” and social and emotional learning gets at the heart of education. In Elk Grove Unified, we take a comprehensive approach to overall wellness recognizing that healthy bodies and healthy minds contribute to increased academic performance, improved engagement and positive behavior for healthy learning. In recognizing the link between student health and learning, our district promotes healthy eating and physical activity, as well as opportunities for students to further develop their social, emotional and psychological well-being and we call it Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds and Healthy Learning.
Schools play an important role in helping students return to normalcy and as we gear up for distance learning, we need the community’s support to help our students when it comes to their social and emotional needs. We have family resources online and ask parents to take a look at that information in addition to enrichment materials that can be accessed online. By focusing on social and emotional learning, we can help our students during this stressful time to help reduce their anxiety and prepare them to be successful when they start distance learning. Here’s what social and emotional learning is:
Let’s work together to help our students at home and help them prepare to re-connect and re-engage with their teachers and classmates.
Regarding our distance learning timeline, we start tomorrow, March 25th with teacher preparation, then by Thursday, April 16th, we begin with middle and high school student learning and on Monday, April 20th, we start with elementary school student learning.

Lastly, for home Internet connectivity, Internet Essentials from Comcast is offering affordable, high-speed Internet to make it easier for low-income households to get connected so they can more easily work from home, access educational resources, and stay in contact with friends and family. Parents and guardians should check this program out as they might be eligible for two months of free Internet Essentials service. Now, this offer is available for new Internet Essentials customers only and you need to apply by April 30, 2020. Visit Internet Essentials program for 60 days and Comcast has also made all XFinity Wifi Hotspots across the country open and free. Many of these hotspots are in neighborhoods and might be accessible from your home. While the District works to provide connectivity and access solutions for students, providers like Comcast can offer longer-term and more flexible programs for the entire family.
Thank you for your support during these unprecedented times and keep up with our daily communications available online at www.egusd.net
Also, please remember and share with others in need the information about our

And, we ask that all residents #StayAtHome and pay attention to the state and county orders of stricter social distancing measures and self-isolation if symptomatic of the COVID-19 virus.
