Dear Elk Grove Unified Parents and Families,
Starting today, teachers are preparing and getting ready to shift from a traditional classroom environment to a new remote and distance learning environment. While the subjects and content will remain the same, managing a classroom, interacting with students and providing direct instruction and student assistance will change. For students, things will change as well when it comes to staying on task, focusing on studying, working independently and collaborating with classmates.
This massive shift will require everyone to use and learn some new skills. We know that by going into unchartered territory, we can expect a little turbulence. So, be ready to buckle up when it’s a little bumpy, be flexible, have patience and show some grace. We all want to slow the spread of COVID-19 by flattening the curve and we can all help out by increasing our own learning curve, adaptability and flexibility.
Our teaching staff is excited and some may be anxious about this huge evolution teaching and learning is going through right now. It is simply unprecedented. Our younger generation has adapted well to an online environment and undoubtedly, our students can help teachers too. We can all work together to make distance learning successful in Elk Grove Unified.
That being said, let’s get ready. Here are some activities everyone can do to prepare for a successful launch:

Connectivity at home will be essential. Three providers in our area offer low-cost or limited-time no-cost service to qualifying families. Attached is the list of those providers and here is a link as well. The sooner you are connected, the sooner your students will start to access materials.
Social and emotional learning continues to be important and here are some activities you can initiate to help build Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds and Healthy Learning at home.
