The EGUSD sent out this email today
March 27, 2020
Dear Elk Grove Unified Parents and Families,
Today, the Sacramento County Office of Education announced that the Sacramento County Public Health Order to close school buildings to the public will be extended to, at the earliest, May 1, 2020.
The Elk Grove Unified School District (EGUSD) will continue with its launch of EGUSD Distance Learning, which begins April 16th for secondary students and April 20th for elementary students. School buildings will remain closed to the public, per state and county orders, but we will be ready to go live remotely with EGUSD Distance Learning by mid-April. Please know that essential district staff will be taking care of the schools and business. If needed, contact your school or the district office by email if you have any questions. Also, the drive-through meal service at select schools and the mobile meal program will continue.
Instructions for our Chromebook check-out process will go out to all parents on Monday. Remember, we want to ensure that everyone who really needs a Chromebook is able to get one. To conduct our distance learning program, you will just need a computer and Internet. The computer can be a Windows PC, Mac, Chromebook, Linux PC or iPad. Checked-out Chromebooks will need to be returned at the end of the school year.
As we near our start date, connectivity at home will be essential. As the District works to secure mobile hotspots, wifi access will be limited to student access only. We encourage families who qualify, to follow-up with three providers in our area who are offering low-cost or limited-time no-cost service to qualifying families. The providers and programs are Comcast Essentials, AT&T Access and Consolidated Communications. Frontier Communications is another provider in the local area and they can be reached to learn about their service plans.
Here’s a link to more information about local providers with discounts for families that qualify.
The advantage of using one of the providers is that more people in the home can have access to the Internet. By only relying on a District hotspot, only the student will be able to use the Internet connection. The sooner you are connected, the sooner your students will be ready to access materials.
Until we are ready to launch distance learning, check out our Enrichment and Fun Activities and remember that Social and Emotional Learning continues to be important, especially during this crisis. As we get ready, here’s a quick reminder of the EGUSD distance learning launch timeline:
