Elk Grove Week at a Glance
Week of March 30, 2020
The Census is a great social distancing activity!
Ensuring every California household participates in the Census is critically important. Mandated by the U.S. Constitution, the Census determines how billions of dollars of federal funding are distributed to each state every year for education resources, affordable housing programs, nutrition and health care services, and more. Estimates show that for every person uncounted, California could lose $1,000 a year for 10 years. That’s as much as $10,000 per person in funds lost over the next decade. Look for your census form in the mail and respond online. For more information and answers to frequently asked questions, visit californiacensus.org.
We’re Here for You
Although city hall is closed to the public, city staff are working hard to serve our community during this crisis. We’ve adjusted our operations and, with the help of technology, most city services are still operating. Staff phones and emails are being managed remotely and we’re finding new ways to ensure that field work and administrative work is being done safely in accordance with social distancing protocols. We’ve created a web page to share contact information and modifications to our services while the public health order remains in place. While many of our staff are working remotely, it’s our goal to provide exceptional services to our residents. Visit www.elkgrovecity.org for details.
Recycling & Waste Service Changes Due to COVID-19
The City of Elk Grove Recycling and Waste Division and Republic Services will be making temporary changes to local service in an effort to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Republic Services will be eliminating the collection of any material not placed in carts – this includes excess trash bags placed next to carts, bulky waste, used oil and filters, batteries, and sharps containers. These changes take effect on Monday March 30, 2020 until further notice.
Residents can drop off their used oil and filters, batteries, and sharps containers to the Special Waste Collection Center (SWCC) located at 9255 Disposal Lane. The SWCC is open Sunday to Wednesday 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
If you have bulky waste to dispose of, Republic Services is allowing all Elk Grove residents to haul a 5cy (cubic yard) limit per load of waste to the Elder Creek Transfer Station (8642 Elder Creek Road) at no additional charge. The Elder Creek Transfer Station is open from 6:00am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday and 6:00 am to 3:00 pm on Saturdays.

Council Authorizes Transit Service Changes, if Needed, for COVID-19
On Wednesday, the City Council adopted a policy and procedures that give the City Manager the authority to modify, reduce, and/or suspend City transit services during a declared emergency event. While the policy and procedures are not intended to dictate exactly what service changes will occur and when, they provide general guidelines and options to respond to ridership loss, bus operator availability, government health and safety orders, and other unforeseen service impacts during an emergency event.
City staff are continuing to monitor the impacts to Elk Grove’s regularly scheduled transit services. We continue to coordinate with the City’s contracted transit provider, Sacramento Regional Transit District, to determine what service changes may be necessary under the present circumstances. Should the City Manager decide to implement any temporary service changes, City staff will notify the public to the greatest extent possible, and in compliance with federal requirements, prior to any changes taking affect.
For more information on the City’s transit services during the COVID-19 event, please visit http://www.elkgrovecity.org/residents/transportation/transit_e-tran/covid-19_impacts_to_citys_transit_service, or call Customer Service at (916) 683-8726.
