March 30, 2020 update from the EGUSD

The EGUSD sent out this email today

March 30, 2020

Dear Elk Grove Unified Parents and Families,

As we prepare for providing instruction remotely and online, students will need a computer type device and an Internet connection for online access to the EGUSD Distance Learning platform. Devices you currently have at home that connect to the internet should be sufficient for student work. For example, your devices can be a Windows PC, Mac, Chromebook, Linux PC, or an iPad. Starting April 1, 2020 through April 9, 2020, EGUSD staff will check-out Chromebooks to students that need a device for distance learning. We are asking families to only check out EGUSD Chromebooks if you really need one. The Chromebooks that you check out will require Internet connectivity to work.

CHROMEBOOK CHECKOUT DISTRIBUTION PLAN

What you must bring to Check-out a Chromebook:

  • Student must be present in the car to receive the device – 1 per student maximum
  • Student ID Card for each student
    • If you do not have a student ID card, please make sure you know the student ID number and name of teacher(s)

DATES OF DEPLOYMENT

  • APRIL 1, 2020 – APRIL 9, 2020

CHECKOUT PROCESS

To comply with County and State guidelines, we will use a drive-thru style check-out system based on the first letter of your child’s last name. The check-out process of Chromebooks will be done in two phases: one for Grades 7-12 and one for Grades 1-6. Chromebook check-out service will be at each comprehensive High School (See below). Please go to your regional High School if you need to check out a Chromebook at the proper time.

INTERNET CONNECTIVITY

If you do not have Internet connectivity at home, EGUSD is working with T-Mobile to acquire hot spots for families that need it. These hotspots will only work with EGUSD Chromebooks. Obtaining hot spots during this pandemic is extremely difficult in the quantity we need. More information will be coming soon on this part.
