April 6, 2020 update from the EGUSD

The EGUSD sent out this email today

April 3, 2020

Dear Elk Grove Unified Parents and Families,

EGUNEWS | Episode 12

This week is spring break and a non-instructional week for Elk Grove Unified with 10 days before we start secondary level distance learning and only 14 days away from beginning elementary level distance learning. In today’s update, we will share information about our revised enrollment process, remind everyone about checking out a Chromebook and hopefully address some of the safeguard questions about Zoom.

  1. ENROLLMENT

During school closures, Elk Grove Unified will continue welcoming and enrolling students for this school year and take enrollment for the 2020/2021 school year. While our schools remain closed to the public, we have developed the following process for welcoming and enrolling your child in school:

  • Parents and/or Guardians may go to the following link to download the Online PDF New Student Welcome and Enrollment Packeto EGUSD
  • Parent/Guardians who do not have access to the Online PDF New Student Welcome and Enrollment Packet or who cannot print it, may contact the school via email to make arrangements to pick up a packet and complete it at home.
  • If a parent and/or guardian is unsure of their school attendance area, they can visit our District’s website here to search by address.
  • Once the enrollment packet is complete, the parent and/or guardian may email or call the school of residence for an appointment to drop off the New Student Welcome and Enrollment Packet. Parents may also scan and email documents to the school of enrollment, use U.S. mail or fax the documents. Please visit the District’s website for a list of schools and the school’s website where you can find the contact information of the school principal and school secretary.
  1. CHECKING-OUT A CHROMEBOOK

If your student really needs a Chromebook, go to your home EGUSD high school: Cosumnes Oaks High School, Elk Grove High School, Florin High School, Franklin High School, Laguna Creek High School, Monterey Trail High School, Pleasant Grove High School, Sheldon High School and Valley High School

For health and safety, the Chromebook check-out will be a drive-thru process to adhere to social distancing guidance.

Student(s) must be present in the car to receive the device – 1 per student maximum

Please write on a paper, have or know the Student ID number for each student

  1. ZOOM SAFEGUARDS

Parents have asked about Elk Grove Unified’s approach to safety amidst concerns of recent “Zoombombing”. EGUSD is working to maintain a safe learning environment and has taken several steps to mitigate unwarranted disruptions in a class Zoom. First, distance learning will predominantly be asynchronous. This means that students primarily will be completing coursework off-line. In preparation for a class Zoom, safeguards are in place technologically and teachers are receiving explicit instructions for app use. These safeguards will also be addressed for other applications like Google Meet.

  1. ADDITIONAL SUPPORT AND SERVICES

EGUSD School Meals: Elk Grove Unified’s school meal drive-thru and grab-n-go service continues this week from April 6th – April 9th (extra meals will be provided to families on the 9th as no meal service will occur on Friday the 10th.)
