Press release from the Elk Grove Police Department

TWO ARRESTED FOLLOWING INVESTIGATION
ELK GROVE, CA – On April 9, 2020 at approximately 7:23 p.m., the Elk Grove Police Department responded to the 6700 block of Laguna Boulevard regarding a weapons disturbance. Upon arrival, officers detained two people, who were standing near a vehicle that was on its side in a shopping center parking lot. Officers learned two other people involved had fled the area. A search of the nearby neighborhood led to the discovery of one of the individuals that had fled.

Through investigative efforts, detectives determined the individual who was found by officers in a nearby neighborhood and identified as a 17-year-old male, contacted 19-year- old Jordon Gordon-Lawson on a social media app. The two arranged to meet in the parking lot of the shopping center for the juvenile to purchase marijuana. The juvenile arrived at the shopping center parking lot in a vehicle with another individual, an adult male. Gordon-Lawson arrived in his vehicle, along with a passenger.

Gordon-Lawson exited his vehicle while his passenger stayed in the vehicle. Gordon-Lawson met the juvenile and the adult male at their vehicle. During the interaction, Gordon-Lawson took the juvenile’s money and ran back towards his vehicle. The juvenile and the adult male chased after Gordon-Lawson. While being chased, Gordon-Lawson pulled out a firearm. Fearing for their safety, the adult male ran back to the vehicle he and the juvenile had arrived in. The juvenile ran to Gordon-Lawson’s vehicle and got into the driver’s seat. The juvenile drove off in Gordon-Lawson’s car at a high rate of speed with Gordon-Lawson’s passenger in the backseat. The juvenile lost control of the vehicle and the vehicle ended up on its side.

After the vehicle ended up on its side, the juvenile took off running and was later found by officers in an adjacent neighborhood southeast of the incident. Officers contacted Gordon-Lawson and his passenger standing next to Gordon-Lawson’s vehicle upon their arrival.

Officers learned prior to their arrival; Gordon-Lawson had discarded the firearm in a nearby bush. The firearm was recovered by officers. Detectives have identified the adult male who was with the juvenile during the incident.

Detectives arrested Gordon-Lawson for robbery, carrying a loaded firearm, and removing or altering the serial number on a firearm. Gordon-Lawson was transported to the Sacramento County Main Jail. The juvenile was taken into custody for motor vehicle theft and kidnapping. The juvenile was transported to Juvenile Hall.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
