Governor Newsom addresses increase in Covid-19 cases, hospitalizations in state

At today’s news conference Governor Newsom addressed the increase in Covid-19 cases in the state. The Governor shares updated numbers on the increase in positivity rates, hospitalizations and ICU cases.

The Governor also announced that the state will increase public service announcements to increase awareness of wearing masks

Some numbers from today:

  • 4056 positive cases
  • Positivity rate up to 6.3% over days and 6.9% over 7 days
  • 56% increase in hospitalizations over two weeks
  • 46% increase in ICU cases over 2 weeks.

Also today the County of Sacramento issued an amended health order

Governor Gavin Newsom announced on July 1, that the California Department of Public Health is requiring all counties that have been on the COVID Monitoring List for at least three days to move certain sectors to outdoor operations. Sacramento is one of the 19 counties on the list and has amended its Public Health Order to reflect the requirement. The Order goes into effect at 3 p.m., July 2.

Sectors to close indoor operations include:

  • Restaurants
  • Wineries and Tasting Rooms
  • Movie Theaters
  • Family Entertainment Centers
  • Zoos and Museums
  • Cardrooms

The indoor operations requirement for these sectors will be in place for at least three weeks.
