Death row inmate convicted in Sacramento County dies of possible Covid-19 complications

A fourth inmate on death row for a crime committed in Sacramento County has died of possible Covid-19 complications.

58 year old Pedro Arias died Sunday at a hospital outside the prison according to the CDCR. A coroner will determine the exact cause of death.

Arias was convicted in 1990 of the May 23, 1987 murder of a gas station employee in Sacramento. Days later Arias abducted and raped a woman, then robbed another woman at gunpoint before eventually being captured by police on June 5, 1987.

Arias had a lengthy criminal record prior to the murder conviction, including several violent crimes.
