Elk Grove Police arrest suspect in catalytic converter thefts

Earlier this morning an alert Elk Grove resident helped police apprehend a man that was stealing a catalytic converter.

Elk Grove Police received a call from a resident that reported hearing what they thought was welding early this morning near Whitelock Parkway and Lousada Drive. Arriving officers observed the suspect speeding away and attempted to pull him over. The suspect, 38-year-old Achien Saephan of Sacramento, eventually stopped the car and was taken into custody.

Officers located tools used to cut off the catalytic converters, as well as 7 stolen converters. Saephan was arrested on two felonies and three misdemeanors
