On May 29, 2016, 15–year old Macy Murphy was found deceased in a vehicle on Inisheer Way in South Sacramento. Murphy was shot by Christopher Simpson, who was 17 at the time. Simpson was arrested two days and charged as an adult for the murder.
Earlier today the Sacramento County District Attorney issued a press release announcing that Simpson was convicted of first-degree murder.
Christopher Simpson was convicted by a jury of the first-degree murder of Macy Murphy. The jury also found true a use of gun enhancement.
Simpson and the 15-year-old victim were in the same circle of friends. On May 29, 2016, Simpson shot the victim in the back of the head while she was sitting in a car. It is believed Simpson perceived the victim had disrespected him. The firearm used in the murder was never recovered.
Simpson faces a maximum sentence of 50 years to life in prison. Sentencing is set for January 14, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. in Department 17 before the Honorable James Arguelles.
