Elk Grove Unified School District releases statement on nationwide social media threats

The EGUSD issued the following statement in response to social media posts about school shootings nationwide

December 15, 2021

Dear Parent/Guardian,

We have learned of warnings being posted on TikTok about nationwide school shootings to occur on December 17th. These posts are being shared across the country and to date, there is no information that these social media postings are directed toward any Elk Grove Unified schools. We are working closely with our law enforcement partners and understand that there is no credible threat to schools in EGUSD or Sacramento County. We will coordinate all District safety and security staff and law enforcement partners in an abundance of caution and will continue to monitor for any updates related to these posts.

Please take time to remind your student that threats made against a school are taken very seriously and are not considered pranks. Individuals found responsible for such threats may face serious criminal charges. Parents may also refer to EGUSD online resources related to Internet Safety and Digital Citizenship

In the event of a situation of suspicious behavior, potential harm to any person, at every Elk Grove Unified School District school site, students and staff are encouraged to do the following: “If you SEE SOMETHING or KNOW SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING.”

We are sharing this information with you as part of our ongoing efforts to keep you informed about incidents that affect our campus. If you have any questions about this situation, please feel free to contact the school principal.
