Highway 50 reopens, Interstate 80 remains closed

Last night Highway 50 reopened with chain controls after being closed for two days. Interstate 80 remains closed.

CalTrans worked through the night plowing I-80. Downed trees and power lines, in addition to heavy snowfall, are delaying reopening. CalTrans has no estimated time of reopening. CalTrans and the CHP and are asking travelers to not use GPS to get around the closures. There is no detour. The back roads are not plowed and cell service is spotty. Vehicles will get stuck.
