Suspect arrested in shooting Monday night near MLK Blvd in Sacramento

The Sacramento Sheriff’s Department posted the following its Facebook page

NEWS RELEASE: SHOTSPOTTER ACTIVATION WITH ARREST

On June 13, 2022, at approximately 7:25 p.m. there were two ShotSpotter activations within south Sacramento County; both occurring in the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and 48th Avenue. Deputies were dispatched less than a minute later and arrived at the activation address shortly thereafter.

Upon arrival, deputies contacted a 48-year-old adult male subject with 5 gunshot wounds. Deputies applied a tourniquet to the victim’s leg and rendered aid until the scene was secured and Metro Fire could safely enter and transport the victim. Emergency physicians determined the injuries were not life threatening.

An assisting law enforcement agency located the suspect vehicle shortly after the incident. Deputies contacted and arrested the suspect who is on active probation. Rand Hawkins Jr. (56) was transported to the Main Jail on a single felony count, assault with a deadly weapon and is being held on $75,000 bail.
