How to Commit Yourself to Making a Fresh Start

It’s never the wrong time to make healthy resolutions and a commitment to more exercise, better eating habits, and a more positive outlook on life. Health goals are easier to keep when they’re reasonable, attainable, and when there’s a true personal commitment to meaningful change. Elk Grove Laguna News shares how you can put your best foot forward and get off to a fresh start!

Get Moving

During the cooler months, people tend to be more sedentary than during warmer weather. No matter the season, get your exercise routine off to a good start by setting aside time each day for physical aerobic activity.

If it’s been a while, you’ll want to go slow, and you may even benefit from a doctor’s checkup before diving into a new workout routine. According to the Mayo Clinic, it’s wise to start slow. Begin with walks around the block or gentle yoga stretches. If the weather doesn’t permit being outside, a home gym or treadmill can be good ways to get your blood flowing and your heart pumping.

Eat Well

The food we put into our bodies impacts not only our health but also our emotional state and mental outlook. Make a commitment to healthy eating by cleaning out your fridge and pantry and eliminating high-calorie, low-nutrient fatty, sugary snacks, sweets, and processed foods. Make a commitment to patronizing your local farmer’s market or health food store and commit to trying new recipes that incorporate lots of fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Make it a family affair and get everyone invested in a healthy lifestyle. If you’re not sure where to start, or you have underlying health conditions to manage, ask your physician for guidance.

Get Mentally Fit

Part of overall health includes ensuring you’re in a good place mentally and emotionally. Healthy habits can include regular forms of relaxation, guided meditation or yoga, mindful thinking and engaging in gratitude, seeking out things that are good and positive in your life as a way to reaffirm a positive mental outlook. Check out online tutorials and instructions for routines, readings, and even everyday affirmations that can help you reinforce the other positive changes you’re implementing in your life. If you battle with anxiety or depression, seek medical advice for the best ways to cope. Medication, therapy, and other natural approaches can help you find a path that’s right for you.

Make a Clean Sweep

It can help to reset relationships and attitudes with a literal clean sweep of the house. Reorganize, move furniture around, add a fresh coat of paint, air out rooms, and create fresh and vibrant spaces to reflect your overall pledge to health and well-being. A new fresh space can help reduce tension in your family, add a note of positivity into your home, and bring household members closer together.

Making a commitment to a positive, gratitude-focused, and healthy lifestyle can make you feel better all around. A change in mental focus can also have a positive impact on the people around you, and allow you to be more present in your relationships, more productive at work, and happier overall.
