Suspect arrested for murdering, dismembering victim in Sacramento County

The Sacramento Sheriff’s Department announced today that an arrest was made in a homicide that took place on July 19, 2022. The 77-year-old victim’s body was dismembered and required the coroner to make a positive identification.

The Sheriff’s Department made the announcement on its Facebook page.


Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Detectives arrested Darnell Erby (44), of Sacramento, in connection with a homicide that occurred on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, on the 5200 block of Field Street. The victim, Pamela Garrett May (77), resided at the Field Street home at the time of her murder. The victim’s body was dismembered beyond recognition and required the coroner to positively identify.

Erby was arrested on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, and was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on one (1) count of Homicide and is being held without bail. No suspects are outstanding in this case. No further information is available at this time.
