Elk Grove City Council approves placing sales tax increase on November ballot

Last night the Elk Grove City Council voted to place a 1% sales tax increase on the November ballot. Surveys conducted by the city over the past 8 months showed that over 60% of those asked were supportive of a sales tax increase that would help increase public safety, provide services for the homeless, maintain parks and roads as well as help pay for future city projects. The vote was 4-1 with councilmember Pat Hume voting no.

The sales tax increase will now be on the November ballot where Elk Grove residents will vote on whether it will be approved. A simple majority is all that is needed to pass the measure.

City staff presented the slides below as part of its presentation to the council.
