Governor Newsom signs bill prohibiting local governments from enforcing parking minimums near transit

On Thursday Governor Newsom signed bill AB 2097. The bill would prohibit local governments from enforcing parking minimums on housing built within one-half mile of transit areas. This would also allow developers to build homes without garages.

In his video message, Newsom said the bill would reduce housing costs.

CA is making housing cheaper & easier to build by eliminating parking requirements for new housing near transit and daily destinations like jobs, grocery stores, & schools.
