Governor Newsom calls legislators back to address rising gas prices

Governor Gavin Newsom announced he will call legislators back to the Capitol to address the rising gas prices and his plan to enact a windfall profits tax on oil companies.

The Governor sent out this tweet yesterday, “I’m calling for a Special Session to address the greed of oil companies. Gas prices are too high. Time to enact a windfall profits tax directly on oil companies that are ripping you off at the pump.

State Senate and Assembly leaders announced their support for their special session. The expected date of the session is December 5, 2022.

According to AAA, the average gas price in California is $2.45 higher than the national average. One year ago the state’s average was $1.17 higher.
