Kia and Hyundai owners warned about Tiktok video showing how to steal cars

If you are an owner of a Kia or Hyundai and use a steel key with turn to start ignition system, law enforcement issued a warning about a Tiktok video that shows how the cars can be stolen using only a USB cord, flash drive, or similar device.

Thieves are breaking into the cars and then breaking part of the steering wheel housing to access the ignition where they use the USB devices in place of a key to start the vehicle.

Thieves are stealing the vehicles and going on joy rides, often damaging the cars. The damage to the steering wheel requires the replacement of parts of the steering wheel. These parts are becoming harder to find due to supply chain issues.

Officials recommend that owners use a steering wheel lock device or an engine immobilizer.
