Names released of two people killed by train in Elk Grove

Update to the original story. The Sacramento County Coroner has released the names of the two people that were hit by a train in Elk Grove early Saturday morning. 37-year-old Duane Love of Elk Grove and 25-year-old Mariah Gonzalez of Sacramento.

Two people died early Saturday morning when they were struck by a train near Elk Grove Blvd in the “old town” area of Elk Grove. According to the app PulsePoint, the call for medical first responders came in at 1:11 am Saturday morning.

The Elk Grove Police Department posted the following on their social media pages:

Early this morning, two people died after being hit by a train near Elk Grove Boulevard and Railroad Street.

Since the incident occurred on Union Pacific Railroad property and not on a public street, the Union Pacific Railroad Police are handling the investigation. This is standard procedure when an incident happens on their property.

Any information related to the investigation will be released by the Union Pacific Police.

The Sacramento County Coroner will release the identification of the victims.
