Successful Outcome Thanks to Many
Officers established a perimeter around the suspect’s house on Trumpet Court last night around five. The suspect was wanted for threats of violence against his former employer.
For over four hours and through a constant downpour, we were in on-and-off communication with the suspect, 23-year-old Jorge Calderon-Melara, trying to get Calderon-Melara to surrender peacefully. Calderon-Melara refused to comply and even destroyed a department drone. Eventually, Calderon-Melara surrendered after several deployments of chemical agents (gas).
Calderon-Melara was booked at the Main Jail on charges of Criminal Threats (Penal Code 422), Vandalism (Penal Code 594 (B)(1)), and Resisting/Obstructing Arrest (Penal Code 148 (A)(1)).
Excellent work by all involved, from Dispatch, Real Time Information Center, Patrol, K9, Detectives, Special Equipment Officer, Crisis Negotiators to SWAT. Despite terrible conditions and a non-compliant suspect, their collaborative efforts, professionalism, and exemplary performance led to a successful outcome.
