One person killed in vehicle fire near I-5 and Laguna Blvd Sunday morning

One person was killed in a solo vehicle collision just before 4 am on Sunday morning. The vehicle was exiting Interstate 5 at the northbound offramp at Laguna Blvd when it left the roadway and collided with a tree. First responders arrived to find the vehicle on fire with one person inside the vehicle. That person died of their injuries.

The CHP issued the following release on the collision

On December 4th, 2022 at approximately 3:58 AM hours, Sacramento Communications Center advised California Highway Patrol South Sacramento of a vehicle fire then a vehicle versus a tree that had occurred on the I-5 northbound, Laguna Boulevard off-ramp. Fire personnel arrived on scene and determined that the vehicle involved (pickup truck) had struck a tree and as a result became fully engulfed with the driver inside of the vehicle, who had succumbed to their injuries. It has been determined that the vehicle, unknown make/model of the pickup truck had taken the Laguna Blvd. off-ramp at a high rate of speed, and suddenly veered to the left, down the embankment until crashing into the tree. With the condition of the truck, we are unable to determine any vehicle specifics and/or driver information. Assistance from the Area VIN officer regarding the vehicle identification and Coroner regarding the driver is pending. The Sacramento County Coroner’s office will provide a positive identification to CHP once they have conducted their examination.
