Sacramento Police investigating city’s 54th homicide

The Sacramento Police Department is investigating a shooting that left one man dead on Tuesday morning, the city’s 54th homicide of the year. Last year the city had 57 homicides.

Homicide Investigation – 3800 Block of Haywood Street

On December 20, 2022 around 11:20 a.m., Sacramento Police Department patrol officers responded to the 3800 block of Haywood Street for a report of a shooting. At the scene officers located one adult male victim who sustained at least one gunshot wound. Officers performed life-saving measures and the victim was transported to a hospital for treatment where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Due to the circumstances, homicide detectives and crime scene investigators responded to take over the investigation. They processed the scene, canvassed the area, and interviewed witnesses. This incident remains in its early stages and the exact circumstances of what occurred remain under investigation. There is no suspect information to provide at this time.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased after next of kin have been notified.
