NEWS RELEASE: MAN ARRESTED FOR SHOOTING AT DEPUTIES
On Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at approximately 9:17 a.m., Sacramento County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a residence on McKinley Avenue in the unincorporated of South Sacramento County, regarding an incomplete 911 call. The caller reported his son, identified as Juan Martinez, was shooting and requested that law enforcement respond. Additional callers reported that Martinez shot at a neighbor’s residence and fired additional rounds into the air. When deputies arrived, Martinez was inside a residence on the property by himself. Deputies learned Martinez had also assaulted a 68-year old family member, who had also lived on the property.
The Sheriff’s Specialized Enforcement Detail (SED) responded a short time later and attempted to call out to Martinez to exit the residence and surrender peacefully. Martinez refused and fired one round out of a rear window at a Deputy, demanding that law enforcement leave. After a brief standoff, Martinez was ultimately taken into custody by a Sheriff’s K9 unit. Martinez was arrested and charged with several felonies, including assault with a deadly weapon upon a peace officer and elder abuse. Martinez is currently being held on $100,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on December 23, 2022 at 3:00 p.m.
