Sacramento Sheriff’s Department reports first homicide of the year in the county

The Sacramento Sheriff’s Department reported the county recorded its first homicide of 2023 on New Year’s Day.

On Sunday, January 1, 2023, at approximately 10:35 p.m., Sacramento County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the reports of a shooting at an apartment complex on the 2800 block of Westwood Lane in Carmichael.

When Deputies arrived on scene, they located an unresponsive male subject lying on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound and learned the suspect had already fled the scene. Deputies determined the subject had no pulse and was not breathing. Sacramento Metro Fire personnel arrived on scene almost immediately thereafter and pronounced the subject deceased.

Homicide detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene, interviewed witnesses, and gathered evidence. No further information or suspect information is available at this time.
