Elk Grove Police arrest suspect that robbed gas station

On Tuesday night the Elk Grove Police Department arrested a man that used a gun to rob a gas station in the 8300 block of Sheldon Road. The suspect entered the store around 10:45 pm Tuesday night with a loaded gun and demanded money from the cashier. After getting some money the suspect, later identified as Michael Leighton, fled the scene in a black Cadillac without license plates.

Elk Grove police said, “Officers responded quickly and were able to locate Leighton in a nearby parking lot. After detaining Leighton, Officers located two loaded firearms, one in his waistband, one strapped above his waist, cocaine, and the stolen money. Leighton was arrested and later booked at the Sacramento County Main Jail for robbery, possession of a controlled substance while armed with a loaded firearm, masked criminal possession of a firearm, concealed weapon in a vehicle, and carrying a loaded firearm in public.
