Sacramento Sheriff arrests two people for severe child abuse and torture of a 2-year-old

The Sacramento Sheriff’s Department announced that two people were arrested for causing life-threatening injuries to a two-year-old child. The child was hurt in October 2022. The arrests happened in December and January.

NEWS RELEASE: ARREST MADE IN CHILD TORTURE CASE

On Sunday, October 9, 2022, at approximately 2:00 A.M., a two-year-old child was brought to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries by the child’s mother and her boyfriend. A short time later, the child was transported to the UC Davis Medical Center to undergo lifesaving surgery. Medical staff determined the child had internal injuries, several fractures, and extensive bruising on their body. Detectives from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Child Abuse Bureau were notified of the incident and began their investigation.

On December 20, 2022, detectives arrested the child’s mother, identified as 19-year-old Rosaisela ESTRADA, for one felony count of PC 273a(a) (Child Endangerment). ESTRADA remains in custody and is ineligible for bail. She is scheduled to appear in court on January 19, 2023.

On January 14, 2023, detectives concluded their investigation and arrested ESTRADA’s boyfriend, identified as 20-year-old Miqueas ROMERO, for one count of PC 206 (Torture with the Intent to Cause Cruel or Extreme Pain) and two counts of PC 273a(a) (Child Endangerment). ROMERO also remains in custody and is ineligible for bail. He is scheduled to appear in court today.

The two-year-old victim has since been released from the hospital and is continuing their recovery.
