The Elk Grove Police Department has released more information about an officer-involved shooting incident following a police chase that was related to a homicide in Rancho Cordova
This is what we know at this time and it is still very early in the investigation. As the investigation continues, information may change. Around 4:40, we were notified of a pursuit of the suspect wanted for a homicide that occurred in Sacramento County earlier today.
The suspect vehicle exited Cosumnes River Boulevard and then proceeded southbound on Bruceville Road heading into Elk Grove. EGPD officers assisted in pursuit as it entered the city.
The suspect rear ended another vehicle that was stopped for the light at the intersection of Bruceville Road and Big Horn Boulevard. Officers engaged the suspect who was the lone occupant in the vehicle.
The suspect was detained, and officers rendered medical aid until he was transported to a local hospital.
What lead officers to discharge their service weapons is unknown at this time. We are in the process of reviewing body worn camera footage.
A firearm was found in the suspect’s vehicle.
This investigation will be conducted by the Elk Grove Police Department’s Investigation Bureau. There will also be two independent reviews into the incident, one by our Professional Standards Bureau as well as one by the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office.Elk Grove Police Department
The Sacramento Sheriff’s Department said a suspect wanted for a homicide in Rancho Cordova was found in the Elk Grove area. After a short police chase that involved sheriff’s deputies, Elk Grove police, and the CHP, the suspect was shot during an altercation on Bruceville Road between Sheldon Road and Big Horn Blvd. No officers were hurt and it has not been disclosed which agency shot the suspect.
The suspect has been identified as 22-year-old Devian Lewis. He was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
An 18-year-old female was found deceased in Rancho Cordova on Ramsgate Way after 1 pm.
