On Tuesday morning the Elk Grove Police Department arrested two men for stealing a car. The incident happened at around 7:15 am. The suspects had stolen a Honda Civic and were seen speeding on eastbound Bond Road when they saw police officers following them and tried to evade the officers. The suspects then pulled into the Green Acres Nursery parking lot and crashed into a pole before fleeing on foot.
The Elk Grove Police Department described the rest of the incident:
One suspect was on a roof of a business and the other was walking out of the business posing as a customer. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of an unregistered/loaded handgun. Both occupants of the vehicle, later identified as Diego Ayon and Jesus Provencio, are validated gang members who were in possession of the firearm while driving the stolen vehicle and had warrants out for their arrests. Ayon was also found to be on parole. Furthermore, a reciprocating saw, bolt cutters and window punch (all tools commonly used for burglary), as well as two-way radios were also found in the vehicle. Ayon was in possession of methamphetamine.
