Elk Grove police release officer-involved shooting video

On Friday the Elk Grove Police Department released video from an officer-involved shooting that occurred on February 1, 2023.

The events that led up to the shooting began earlier in the day with a homicide in Rancho Cordova. An 18-year-old female was stabbed and run over by the suspect Devian Lewis. Lewis was later located in Fairfield and led CHP and eventually Sacramento Sheriff’s Deputies and Elk Grove police officers on a pursuit that ended in Elk Grove.

The suspect exited Highway 99 at Cosumnes River Blvd and then headed south on Bruceville Road. In the video, the suspect vehicle is seen swerving around other vehicles with officers in pursuit. Eventually, the suspect vehicle collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Bruceville and Big Horn.

At that point, one officer used his vehicle to pin the suspect vehicle. The suspect then tried to exit the vehicle from the driver’s side and officers opened fire, striking the suspect twice.
