Man killed by Elk Grove police at Holiday Inn Express

Late Monday night an Elk Grove police officer shot and killed a man they say was armed with a gun. The incident happened shortly after 11:30 pm when officers responded to the hotel.

KCRA News reported that someone who knew the suspect called the police and said he stole his car and was acting erratically. After being told there were no rooms available, the man was involved in an altercation with a hotel employee. Again, according to KCRA, officers arrived on the scene during the altercation. At some point, the man was shot by an Elk Grove police officer and was taken to a local hospital where he died of his injuries.

The incident is being investigated by the Elk Grove Police Department and the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office. The investigation is ongoing and the Elk Grove Police Department is expected to release more information later today.

This is the second shooting involving the Elk Grove Police Department this month.

We are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred around 11:39 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express (9175 W. Stockton Blvd.). The lone suspect was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. No one else was injured. More info to follow.

Update- The suspect was armed with a firearm at the time of the shooting. It is still very early in the investigation,
