What is happening in Elk Grove this week

Tune in to the State of the City Address
Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen will deliver the annual State of the City address this Friday, March 31 at the Chamber of Commerce luncheon event at District56. The speech will be broadcast live on the City’s website beginning at 12:30 p.m. Listen live.

Family Fun Day
Gather the family and enjoy an afternoon of fun on Saturday, April 15 at Family Fun Day from Noon to 4 p.m. at the Old Town Plaza. This free event organized by the Elk Grove Youth Commission will feature carnival games, music, activities, and more! Food will be available for purchase.

Recycled Couture Is All the Rage
The average U.S. person throws away 81 lbs. of clothing per year. To help reduce the waste in our landfills, the City’s Special Waste Collection Center(SWCC) has added a new collection bin for used clothing and other household textiles (i.e. drapes, bedding, pillows, etc.).
Diverting clothes and textiles from the trash to these bins could reduce the tonnage Elk Grove trash trucks deliver to local landfills by up to 5%. When a resident drops off their material in the collection bin, our recycling partner, Green Team, will sort, recycle, and repurpose those items — 45% are re-used as apparel; 30% are converted into industrial polishing/wiping cloths and 20% are processed into fiber to be manufactured into new products.
So if you’re cleaning out the closet, keep it out of the trash cart and consider donating or recycling your clothing and textiles. The SWCC accepts material at no charge to Elk Grove residents Sunday through Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Trail Crossing Update
A project to construct a bicycle and pedestrian bridge crossing over State Route 99 at Laguna Creek was recently awarded a $6.8M grant through the Regional ATP program. The City’s application was ranked the highest in the SACOG region. This grant, in addition to prior grant funding received and Congressional Appropriation, fully funds the project. The project will include a trail extension to the east to connect to the Camden Trail and create a continuous 7-mile trail segment within the City. Construction is anticipated to start in 2026.

Focus on your health and wellness this April and get rewarded!
Cosumnes Parks & Recreation is challenging you to do one thing (big or small) to improve your physical, mental or social health every day in April. Register for the program and track your activities on the Challenge Tracker. The more active you are, the more chances you have to win prizes at Elk Grove FitFest on April 29! Register Online
