Oakland A’s announce move to Las Vegas

Last night the Oakland A’s announced they have signed an agreement to move to Las Vegas. The team purchased 49 acres and plans to build a stadium with a retractable roof. The proposed stadium will be built near the Las Vegas Strip. Construction is expected to start in 2024 and open in 2027. There is no word yet on where the A’s would play in the meantime or if they would stay in Oakland.

The A’s moved from Kansas City to Oakland in 1968. The team won the World Series from 1972-1974 and again in 1989 beating the San Francisco Giants in the World Series known for the Loma Prieta earthquake that temporarily halted the series.

The team has been trying to build a new stadium in the Oakland area for several years
