City Offers FREE Permit-Ready ADU Plans
Adding an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) to your property can be both good for you and for our community: ADUs are a convenient option as an income source or to house family, and ADUs help address the citywide housing shortage issue. But the costs and time involved for custom plans can be imposing. The City of Elk Grove has removed this barrier by offering multiple sets of pre-approved, permit ready ADU design plans that will help fast-track your ADU project. Not only does this eliminate the time and cost needed to develop custom plans, you can start your project secure in knowing that these plans already meet all the latest codes. Whether you want to build a studio, 1-, or 2-bedroom unit, each plan allows for flexibility for interior and exterior finishes for a customized look. Learn more.

City Responds to State Lawsuit Over Oak Rose Housing Project
Elk Grove officials were notified last week of a lawsuit filed by the State of California against the City over its July 2022 determination that the Oak Rose Apartments, a 67-unit supportive housing project proposed in Elk Grove’s historic district, was not eligible for streamlined approval.
“The City of Elk Grove is not a bad actor,” said Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen. “Elk Grove has a strong track record for supporting affordable housing projects and continues to engage in good faith discussions with the Oak Rose Apartments applicant in hopes of reaching a mutually agreeable solution. In the interest of collaboration, the City has kept the Attorney General’s Office informed of the status of those discussions. The City welcomes and invites further dialogue with the Attorney General’s Office in hopes of reaching a resolution that is beneficial to all impacted parties, particularly the City’s low-income households and persons experiencing homelessness.”
