PD Launches 2023 BBQ in the Beat
Get ready Lakeside/Laguna West area! The Police Department is bringing back their BBQ in the Beat series at Johnson Park (9645 Lakepoint Drive) on Saturday, June 24 from 11 a.m. -2 p.m. Come out and enjoy games, a free BBQ lunch, and check out local law enforcement vehicles and equipment. Cosumnes Fire Department will be there too!
Don’t live on the west side? Don’t worry. Other dates and locations are scheduled in July, August, and September. Stay tuned! 

A Free, Greener Camping Fuel Option? Yes, please!
Californians regularly use 1 lb. propane gas cylinders for outdoor grills, heaters, and lighting. Elk Grove residents can now save money by buying and refilling reusable 1 lb. propane cylinders! On Saturday, June 23, from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m., receive a FREE reusable 1 lb. propane cylinder by visiting Elk Grove Ace Hardware at (9680 Bruceville Road). Limit one per household, while supplies last. Participants must be an Elk Grove resident to qualify. For more information about the ReFuel Your Fun Campaign, recycling empty cylinders, and to find more retailers offering reusables, visit refuelyourfun.org.
This program is presented by the City of Elk Grove and funded by a grant from CalRecycle.  

Ride Safe and Smart – New Adult Bicycle Safety Class
Join the City and the Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates (SABA) for an Adult Bicycle Education Class next Sunday, June 25 at 9 a.m. at District56 (9701 Big Horn Blvd.). Learn the fundamentals of riding a bicycle in town from LCI certified instructor Pierson Rohr. Other topics will include bike control skills, how to deal with limited mobility, and even some street riding rules and techniques that may surprise you!
This class is free and accessible for all ages and useful for all skill levels. Please bring a working bike and a helmet. Class size is limited to 25 participants. Other dates and youth classes will be announced soon. Register to attend.

Youth Commission Openings
The City is looking for four enthusiastic students ages 13-18 (grades 7-12) to join the Elk Grove Youth Commission. This group offers a great way to serve the community, promote personal growth, and engage in local government. Apply by July 19 to serve in the next school year! Learn more. 

Farmers Markets to End in Old Town
A shortage of growers, vendors, and guests has prompted an early end to the Sunday morning Farmers Markets at the Old Town Plaza. The last market will be held this Sunday, June 25. The City and our market partner, Living Smart Foundation, want to thank everyone who supported the markets.
The City is in the process of exploring other programming opportunities for gatherings at the Old Town Plaza and we welcome your suggestions. In the meantime, we invite you to continue attending the Food Truck Mania events on the first Wednesday of each month, the Americana Vintage Markets on the second Saturday of each month, and our free Fridays in the Grove events on the first Friday of the month at the Old Town Plaza.   

Register for the Run 4 Hunger
Celebrate this Independence Day by supporting the Elk Grove Run 4 Hunger. Run or Walk a 5K or 10K in support of Elk Grove Food Bank Services. 2023 will mark the 19th year of this important fundraiser. This July 4th morning event is for everybody in the family! Strollers and dogs are welcome. Register online. 

Get Ready for the Boom! Join the City of Elk Grove, Cosumnes CSD, and Sky River Casino as we celebrate our nation and our city at the 27th annual Elk Grove Salutes the Red, White and Blue on Tuesday, July 4 from 5-10 p.m. at Elk Grove Park (9950 Elk Grove-Florin Road). Festivities will include a bike parade, a free concert featuring Y2Yay, vendors, food trucks, and fireworks. Admission is free, parking is $10. Learn more.
