Arrest made in gang-related homicide in Vintage Park

The Sacramento Sheriff’s Department announced they have arrested a suspect in a homicide that happened Saturday evening in the Vintage Park area of Sacramento County, just north of Elk Grove.

HOMICIDE AT VINTAGE PARK

Just after 6 P.M. on Saturday, June 24, 2023, Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputies responded to Vintage Park in South Sacramento after the report of a shooting. Deputies arrived on scene and discovered a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Deputies began administering first aid until the Sacramento Metro Fire Department arrived. The victim was transported to the hospital, where he, unfortunately, passed away from his injuries. Deputies learned the victim was 17 years old.

Sheriff’s Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene, interviewed witnesses, and gathered evidence.

Detectives learned the incident was entirely gang-related, as a fight occurred between several gang members and associates, of which the victim was an active participant. The conflict escalated into a gunfight between the two groups when the victim was struck by gunfire once on the right side of his head, ultimately causing his death.

Detectives authored several search warrants throughout Sacramento County as part of their investigation. With the assistance of the Sacramento Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Detail (SED), Sacramento Police SWAT team, and Elk Grove Police SWAT team, detectives executed search warrants on four different locations on Sunday, June 25, 2023. Based on their investigation, detectives arrested 28-year-old Rafael RAMIREZ. RAMIREZ was subsequently booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail for PC 187 – Murder. He is ineligible for bail and is scheduled to appear in court on June 27, 2023, at 3 P.M.
