Time for National Night Out National Night Out is about community partnerships and neighborhood comradery with the goal of creating safer and stronger neighborhoods. National Night Out is this Tuesday, August 1. Members of the Elk Grove Police Department and other city leaders will stop by neighborhood celebrations throughout the city to connect with Elk Grove residents and promote ways to keep our city safe. Learn more.

New Monthly Market Kicks Off with Aloha Sunday The Creative Space is making its way to the Old Town Plaza in Elk Grove! On select Sundays through the end of the year, The Creative Space Market will host themed market events in Elk Grove’s historic district. Join the fun on Aloha Sunday – August 6 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. — a day filled with small businesses selling their crafts and delicious food celebrating the spirit of the Hawaiian Islands.

Fridays in the Grove Goes Country Learn to line dance from a professional choreographer and boot scoot and boogie to live music with Gunpowder and Lace at the next Fridays in the Grove, August 4 from 7-9 p.m. at the Old Town Plaza (9615 Railroad Street). Free and open to all ages.

Alabama-based Vulcan Materials to Construct Elk Grove Aggregate Plant The Elk Grove Planning Commission recently approved a conditional use permit and plans last week for the construction of a 24-acre aggregate plant at 10000 Waterman Road, about 2 miles east of Highway 99. The plant, which would be built on undeveloped land zoned for heavy industrial uses, would produce asphalt and concrete and serve as a recycling center for asphalt and concrete debris. The site’s proximity to the freeway and development growth areas attracted Vulcan Materials (NYSE: VMC) to the location. Construction and opening could happen in 2024.

Annual Community Campout – All the Fun Without the Work Experience the joys of summer camp in Elk Grove at the 21st Annual Community Campout this weekend, August 5 and 6, at Elk Grove Park. Gather your family and friends for this easy and convenient campout that packs in all the fun without the work. Simply pitch your tent and enjoy camp favorites including swimming, crafts, campfire songs, and s’mores. Meals are included and prepared by the Elk Grove Lions Club. Hosted by the Cosumnes Community Services District and local Boy Scout Troops, the campout fee is $25 per person. Details and registration.

Celebrate Elk Grove’s Accessibility Advocates Celebrate those who have gone above and beyond in helping individuals with disabilities in Elk Grove—nominate them for the Disability Advisory Committee’s 17th Annual Above and Beyond Awards! Introduced in 2007, the award recognizes individuals, businesses, or organizations that go above and beyond for individuals with disabilities in our community. Nominations are being accepted through August 11.
